This week we have been learning about shapes. We have learnt the names of shapes and words to describe them, for example; curved, straight, corner, side, face etc.
Miss Thompson and a group of children went on a shape hunt in our outdoor environment.
Can you go on a shape hunt at home? Can you describe the shapes that you can see?
Keep up with all your hard work completing the sound/word of the week homework. I’ve attached a few photographs of examples to give you some ideas. We really appreciate your support.

On Friday we celebrated Chinese New Year. We held our ‘Story café’ event and had a big turn out from parents across Nursery and Reception. We retold the story of the Zodic calendar and then joined family members in class to complete a range of Chinese New Year activities. These included; making lanterns, copying Chinese scripts, ordering Chinese Numbers and dressing up in traditional Chinese Clothing. We finished the afternoon by performing a dragon dance!
Our class were very excited to have their first PE lesson on Thursday. I was very impressed at how independent they were at getting dressed and un-dressed into their PE kits. We thought carefully about finding a space in the hall. The children explored moving in different ways around the hall space.
Don’t they look great in their house colours?
On Friday the children finished off Maths Week by joining in with a House quiz. The children sat in teams and supported each other to answer the quiz questions. The winning team was Birkdale!
Reception enjoying the snow! Shame there wasn’t enough to build a snowman 🙁
During this cold period, please ensure your child comes to school with a hat, gloves and scarf. They may also wish to bring wellington boots which they can get changed into when necessary.
Wow! We definitely love dancing in class RV! This morning we had Lucy a dance teacher from ‘Flex Dance’ come in a teach us a dance routine. She was very impressed with our listening skills and we managed to follow her instructions to complete a routine. We then performed the routine in groups to each other and discussed how an audience should react after the performance.
Miss Vickerstaffe and Mrs Thompson were also impressed by our independence skills when getting dressed and undressed into our PE kits. If your child has not brought a PE kit into school, please can they do so by the end of the week.
This week in class RV we have been reading the story ‘Farmer Duck’. The children have watched some interesting videos on farming and we have discussed what produce can come from the crops and animals on a farm. Here is a link to one of the video’s that we watched.
We have discussed that non fiction books and computers can help us find out more information about farms. We will be using the children’s search engine ‘Kiddle’ to type in questions for find out further information.
Next week we are talking about journey’s and discussing journeys that the children might have been on. If your child would like to bring an object or photograph of a journey that they have been on, please do so.
